The challenges in the lives of athletes are many; their well-being is impacted by their situation both on and off the field, while injuries, mental and physical pressures are a natural by-product of competing at a high level. The psychological stressors experienced by athletes put a lot of strain in their mental state and they can have devastating results.
The recent events with Naomi Osaka, have brought the issue of athletes’ mental health to the surface, along with all the grim repercussions that an imbalance in mental health can bring about in the lives of athletes and their families.
This month we are highlighting how important it is for athletes to be in a stable mental and emotional state. Athletes need to be aware that their mental health is as important as their physical health. We want to encourage them to seek help in overcoming mental challenges and to develop strategies which will help them improve their mental resilience and avoid becoming overwhelmed.
