Entrepreneurship is a lucrative post sports career option for many athletes. Entrepreneurship itself is very exciting and it usually comes with excellent wealth generating prospects. During the past decade, we have seen a number of successful business ventures initiated and headed by athletes. Entrepreneurs are usually risk takers, they like to create, they love to work and do not mind being constantly out of their comfort zone. These very same characteristics are the ones that athletes cultivate throughout their athletic career which in consequence make them ideal for becoming entrepreneurs.
Entrepreneurship is not “all roses” though. Athletes aspiring to become entrepreneurs should be fully aware of what they are getting into and what is required of them to become successful businesspeople. Entrepreneurship is usually accompanied by high financial risk and long periods of struggle, at least in the initial stages.
This month, we want to make athletes aware that due tο their athletic background, they already possess the necessary characteristics of becoming successful entrepreneurs. Should they decide to pursue entrepreneurial endeavors in their post sports career, they can do it successfully by following the same principles that governed their athletic career: grit, discipline, patience and persistence!
