UK sport is built on excellence. From academy systems to elite competition, athletes are developed with precision, discipline and world-class coaching. Yet one critical area is often left behind: financial education.
As young athletes progress through academies and into professional environments, they are increasingly exposed to contracts, agents, sponsorships and income streams that carry real financial consequences. Many face these decisions for the first time with little structured guidance. The result is not a lack of talent, but a lack of preparation.
This April, we focus on closing that gap. We explore the financial realities athletes encounter early in their careers, the risks of entering professional sport without the right knowledge, and the importance of preparing for life beyond competition. We also look at how academies and institutions can begin to integrate financial education into the development pathway.
Because supporting athletes should go beyond performance. It should equip them with the understanding and confidence to navigate the financial side of their careers, both during and after sport.
