Happy New Year to all of our readers and may 2020 be an exciting year of positive change and extraordinary growth!  We start off this year by exploring the Holistic Model of Athlete Development and its positive effects on both athletes and society.

Currently, the sports industry is focusing on creating the conditions necessary to produce world class athletes.  This approach benefits the sporting aspect alone and does not focus on the player as a whole person.  There is a tendency of coaching through the use of old tactics, such as winning at all costs and hunting for trophies.  Furthermore, the focus of this approach is just on the athlete and not on the person and does not offer much in terms of a well-rounded personal development program for the athlete.

The Holistic model of athlete development focuses on the athlete as a person, and on the athlete’s sporting, personal, emotional, psychological, academic, social and financial development.  The Holistic model basically focuses on producing better people, not just better athletes.

This month, we discuss the holistic model of athlete development and its effect on athletes, the sports industry, and society in general.  We believe that the holistic model of athlete development is the best way to go for sports organizations wanting to make an impact.  Balancing the well-being of athletes with their athletic performance through financial education and personal development programs parallel to their athletic programs, will help the sport industry turn out better players and better human beings at the same time!
