March: NCAA + NIL: Financial Readiness, Risk, and Responsibility

Mar 1, 2026 | Editorials

March 1st, 2026

The NIL era has opened new doors for student-athletes. It has also made financial readiness more important than ever. What looks like simple income often comes with responsibilities, rules, and long-term consequences that many young athletes are not prepared for. NIL is exciting, but it is not effortless.

This March, we focus on bringing clarity to that complexity.

We explore why NIL money is rarely “free”. We’ll explain why financial education now sits at the heart of college athletics. We also examine how hidden risks can surface long after a deal is signed. Athletic departments are facing growing pressure to guide athletes through decisions that affect taxes, compliance, and long-term stability.

Our goal is to make NIL understandable, manageable, and grounded in real-world financial sense. When student-athletes and institutions operate with the right knowledge, NIL becomes more than an opportunity. It becomes a foundation for long-term wellbeing.
