May 2024: Athletes, Mindfulness and Financial Wellbeing

A number of studies have shown that our mental health and our finances are intertwined.  Just like our mental and physical wellbeing, our financial wellbeing has a huge impact on our daily lives.  Financial stress can have a negative impact on our mental and physical health.  Incorporating mindfulness into how we deal with money and our finances, can help us find balance, feel less stressed and achieve financial wellbeing.

Financial mindfulness means making deliberate choices about spending and saving; it means being fully aware of our current financial situation and doing what we have to do in the present to help our financial wellbeing in the future.

This month the Money Smart Athlete team guides athletes in incorporating and practicing financial mindfulness in their daily lives so that they can make rational and healthy decisions relating to their finances.  Cultivating financial awareness, avoiding impulsive spending and investment decisions and taking action when needed can help athletes develop a healthier relationship with money and have a fulfilling financial life.
